Boating, How Affordable Is It?

Anyone who has a keen interest in Sport Participation or Outdoor Hobbies will know that there is a cost.  This will vary widely and is very much dependent on where you start and how far you want to go.

Like all Past Times, Hobbies and Outdoor Sports, there is almost no end to the amount of money you can spend on any given activity.  Yes, you can buy a set of second hand, well loved (past their best) golf clubs and a handful of balls (from one of the many online market places) and then swing wildly around an open park or sports pitch, in the hope you'll be the next PGA Champion, but eventually you are going to want some professional advice and coaching, as well as a membership to a well maintained Golf course, to progress towards reaching that dream.

Well as with all good outdoor activities, you'll need to start somewhere and then decide how far to go and how much you are willing to spend getting there.  

That's why Solent Boat Training provide introductory courses and events at an affordable price.  From 'Start Powerboating', 'Start Yachting' or the introduction to Motorboating, through the 'Helmsman Course'.  All of these courses are structured RYA courses and follow a progressive syllabus, to ensure you can gain both the skills and confidence to move forward, whilst also enjoying the unique experience that boating provides.  

Maybe you just want to introduce someone you know to Sailing, then why not try one of our 'Solent Day Sailing Events', where they will get the opportunity to get involved under the watchful eye of one of our highly experienced skipper instructors.  Learn to steer, tack and negotiate the waters of the Solent as part of a crew and begin to understand why the open waters are so additive, to those with a passion for the outdoors.   

We know boating is not a cheap past time and as for the cost of boat ownership, well you can imagine we are fully aware of those costs (we do have a fleet of eleven of them, after all).  However, you don't need to own a boat to get out onto the water or gain additional skills and knowledge.  

SBT provide courses and events for all levels, both water and shore based, whilst offering a competitively priced path, to which ever level of boating you wish to reach.  In addition there is the opportunity to gain additional experience during our many 'Mileage and Experience Building' events, for all.  From Sailing mileage builders, 'Marina Skills' days and the chance to navigate, visit and enjoy the many locations the Solent and surrounding areas offer.

Or maybe you would like to charter our own Bavaria 37 Cruising Yacht (for those with the correct qualifications and experience) on a 'Bareboat Bases' and go it alone.  Sail around the Solent by yourself and enjoy the freedom that Bareboat Chartering offers you.
