This One Day Southampton based training course, is suitable for anyone who has identified a requirement for Paediatric Emergency First Aid such as Parents, Guardians, family members or those responsible for child care. The focus of this course is on preventing situations from becoming worse and learning the vital life saving skills, that a trained Paediatric Emergency First Aider can use, until help arrives. Our SBT instructors deliver dynamic courses that relate the subjects being taught to real life situations, which makes our training more applicable to you as a first aider. Because of the wide spread availability of this course, it has also become a popular option for anyone requiring basic first aid training for variety situations, where care for a child or infant is required. We run courses from our Southampton, Shamrock Quay classrooms, which benefit from a central location, with parking available. Who Typically Attends This Course?

SBT deliver the Paediatric Emergency First Aid course to a variety of clients, working within a wide number of environments such as: Nursery, Pre & After School Child Care, Schools & Education and even those who just want to have some useful & current First Aid knowledge, such as parents, guardians, carers and those who want to just further enhance their Life Skills.

Many are part of a larger organisation or work force and complete the course to meet the requirements of the establishment. 

Some clients work on a freelance or voluntary bases and use the course to ensure they can assist those who may need initial First Aid treatment or assistance, prior to further medical help arriving.

Course Duration

This course is normally run over 1 day (7 hours).

Course Syllabus

A range of subjects are covered including: • Role of the Paediatric First Aider • Action in an Emergency • Primary Survey • Secondary Assessment • The Respiratory System • Resuscitation • Disorders of respiration • Child Basic Life Support • Bites & Stings • Disorders of the Circulation • Minor Burns &Scalds • Seizures • Wounds & Bleeding 

Assessment is ongoing by the instructor.

Course Certification 

This course is certified with a certificate lasting for 3 years. Course includes a comprehensive First Aid Manual, FAA Certificate, & relevant course handouts. The HSE recommend that all First Aiders attend a First Aid Refresher annually, to ensure that they are up to date with procedures and to reduce the level of “first aid skill fade”.
