RYA PWC Proficiency Course For Jet Ski In Southampton From £149

Our RYA PWC Proficiency courses for jet skis run from our Southampton marina base which is easily reached by car, train, boat or plane with free parking onsite. With 4 SeaDoo 90hp & 155hp jet ski bikes permanently within the marina on quick launch floating versadocks, also showers, toilets and a classroom block all within yards. 

We have 5 years experience running over 30 courses per year, so we are one of the larger jet ski schools in the Southampton & Solent.

Successful completion of this course entitles you to the ICC international pwc jet ski certificate which is very often required to drive a jet ski abroad.

Our course price varies due to season from £149 to £199 but always includes use of our jets skis, fuel, course book, wet suits, refreshments & RYA certificate on completion.

 

RYA PWC JETSKI COURSE

This 1 day course is for students with very little or even no experience on a jet ski, so the perfect course for a beginner and experienced skier alike. We also run RYA PWC instructor courses.

These one day RYA PWC Jet Ski courses run from March to October each year starting at 9.30am and finishing about 5.30pm . Courses can only be booked online via this website. Minimum student age is 12 years with an adult booked onto the same course. 16+ for unaccompanied students.

RYA PWC Proficiency Course Syllabus

INTRODUCTION - ASHORE

Layout of a PW controls propulsion and steering system. Fuel and Oil. Stowage compartment.

Checks on PWC prior to launching.

Personal equipment wet suit/dry suit, personal buoyancy, head and eye protection.

Essential safety information.  Kill cord, safe speed, local hazards.

LAUNCHING AND FAMILIARISATION - AFLOAT

Launching from trailer, board in shallow water and start engine.

Control at slow speed. Balance and trim.

Falling off and re-boarding. Capsize and righting. Control at speed. Stopping distances.

COLLISION AVOIDANCE - ASHORE

Rules of the road applied to PWCs, including:

Lookout. Safe speed.

Priorities between different classes of vessel.

Overtaking, crossing and end-on approach rules.

Local rules speed limits and prohibited areas.

ORIENTATION AT SEA - ASHORE

Charts, scales, direction and distance. Representation of land, shallows and deep water.

Buoys, lateral and cardinal, avoiding shipping channels, special buoyed areas for water-skiing etc., tides, high and low water and tidal streams.

ORIENTATION - AFLOAT

Following a planned route, identifying buoys and marks.

COLLISION AVOIDANCE - AFLOAT

Recognising potential collision situations and taking correct avoiding action.

PWC CONTROL AT SPEED - AFLOAT

Slalom exercise.

EMERGENCIES - AFLOAT

Towing a disabled PW.  Knots, Bowline and Round turn and two half hitches.

On completion of this practical exercise, recover PW from water and prepare for trailing and storage.

WEATHER, SAFETY, COURTESY TO OTHER WATER USERS - ASHORE

Sources of and significance of weather forecasts. Lee and weather shores.

Safety and emergency equipment.

Courtesy to other water users and avoiding pollution.

Avoiding disturbance and damage to wildlife habitats.
